On December 1st, Xiamen resumed its point demerit punishments for traffic violations that are caught by electronic monitoring. From 00:00 to 20:00, Xiamen Police fined violators for a total of 6,119 traffic violations which were captured through electronic monitoring, according to Xiamen Traffic Police.
Of the total traffic violations, 12 of the traffic violators were deducted 12 points for speeding. The first traffic violation was caught 4 minutes after the official re-launch of the electronic monitoring system. An Audi sedan with a Xiamen license plate changed lanes illegally, and the driver was fined 150 yuan and had 3 points deducted from his driving license.
A probationary driver can only accumulate up to 12 demerit points within 12 months before their driving license is revoked.
According to Xiamen Police, 298 out of the 6,119 traffic violations were for speeding, and the punishments for speeding are as follows: RMB 100 fine and 6 points deducted (for drivers who are travelling 20-50% over the speed limit); RMB 500 fine and 12 points deducted (50-80% over the speed limit); RMB 1,500 fine and 12 points deducted (more than 80% over the speed limit).
The speeding violations mainly occurred on Xiang’an Avenue, Yanwu Bridge, Chenggong Avenue and Huandao Road.
Of the total traffic violations, 1,941 of them were related to violations of traffic signs, which saw punishments of an RMB 150 fine and 3 points deducted, and 3,421 of them were for illegal parking, which brought punishment of a RMB 100 fine. The illegal parking mainly occurred on Zhenhai Road, Jiangtou Xi Road, Gangqu Road and Jinshang Road.
